This is where an org like consumer reports can come in and do the research on the number and type of repairs needed per unit sold and if one brand or model is more reliable than another and by how much. They need to take into account the amount of units samsung/lg sells because just maybe the failure rate is similar or even better than other brands (or maybe not) I meant people here on sd trashing lg and samsung because of what some repair person said or some other type of anecdote. I did not mean reviews on retailer wesbites. I think the issue is, initially the fridges are fine, but 2, 3, 5 years down the line, oddball parts start to break and by that point, LG/Samsung releases slightly changed models, so of course you aren't seeing negative reviews on a retailers website. But when i search on home depot and filter by top sellers, it is loaded with lg and samsung refrigerators. People like to dog on samsung and lg refrigerators. She is my direct experience with LG and tells anyone who will listen Don't Buy LG. They are now 6-years-old and she has already replaced the dishwasher with Whirlpool. My very own sister has an entire suite of LG kitchen appliances. I'd stay away from Samsung and LG until they resolve customer service issues Then I put it on my AMEX that gives an extended warranty. KitchenAid covers the sealed system, compressor, evaporator etc with parts and labor years 2 thru 5. I ended up with a KitchenAid because it had a better warranty than GE or Whirlpool. Also telling, when I announced at work my frig died every person who owned Samsung and LG told me the same thing. I could not wait days or weeks for a response. The only email response I got from LG was the automatic "we received your inquiry. Spent 4 hours one day trying to get thru to LG, 6 hours on day two. Called back and got someone knowledgeable. GE I hung up on because I got a guy who was not helpful. I got thru to talk to a person or got call backs from GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid within 10 minutes to 45 minutes. I called and emailed every customer service support line to ask the same questions. I looked at all the brands with a single door, bottom freezer refrigerator. Then often weeks or months to get parts and a qualified, authorized LG technician to come do the repair. Spend weeks online and sending emails trying to get a response. You will run into lousy customer service, spend hours on the phone. The problems start when there is a failure, major or minor issues cause the same issues.
